Fall and winter have brought exciting changes and new energy to Hall Farm as students and staff welcome new animals and dive into hands-on learning opportunities. With the arrival of a new donkey, two calves, a special recognition for a familiar face, and expanded enrichment projects, the farm has been full of growth, care, and discovery. Each new experience offers meaningful ways for students to connect with animals while building responsibility and confidence.
Two of the newest additions to the farm are baby calves, Zinnia and Zoey! Students have been closely involved in helping the calves adjust to their new environment, learning about feeding schedules, shelter needs, and how weather impacts animal care. Watching the calves settle in and grow has been a rewarding experience, especially for students who helped prepare the farm before their arrival and now get to see their efforts come to life.
Hall Farm also welcomed Rosie, a 15-year-old miniature donkey from the Newbury Vet Clinic in Bradford. Rosie has quickly made herself at home and is getting to know her new surroundings and barnyard companions, including Fred and Daisy. Known for her sweet personality and vocal nature, Rosie has already become a favorite among students as she settles into her new routine and builds connections with both animals and people.
Adding to the excitement, Fred the donkey has become a bit of a celebrity. This month, Fred was selected to be featured in the 2026 SYA annual calendar after his photo—submitted by Hall Farm Director Amy—received an outpouring of support. Students and staff are proud to see Fred recognized and celebrated beyond the farm.
Students have also been hard at work creating an enrichment area for the farm rabbits. By building structures and obstacles for the rabbits to explore, students are learning about animal enrichment, creativity, and teamwork. The project is ongoing, with plans to expand and decorate the space as the rabbits continue to enjoy their new play area.
We are grateful for the dedication and care shown by both students and faculty at Hall Farm. Their time, creativity, and commitment make it possible for the farm to thrive as a place of learning and growth for everyone involved. Thank you for following along on our Hall Farm adventures—we look forward to sharing more updates as the seasons continue to change.
